To provide clarification and practice of compound words in the context of old and new.
To provide fluency speaking practice in a discussion in the context of old and new.
Procedure (22-30 minutes)
Introduce topic;look at the pictures and eliciting what they represent.Using CCQs to describe the pictures of old and new objects e g. Are they old or new? Which objects are old and which ones are new? Can you name them? Do you still have old objects? Are they useful? Where can you use them? which one uses electricity? Which object do you think it is the best? do you have a problem with any object of them? .Discussing the pictures
After naming some of the objects or actions in the pictures,giving them a handout asking them to work individually to match the modern items in column (A )with the more traditional items in column( B).Checking in pairs .Then whole class feedback.
T checks the meaning using ICCQs. Drill chorally and individually.Show how to mark the stress on the compound words.
Put Ss into pairs.Ask students to choose four pairs of objects.say which you prefer and give reasons.Discuss do they ever have problems with these objects. T monitors and checks sentences with guidance.
