Description

In this lesson, students will learn how to use the compound nouns and words and to be familiar with the most words in the box.The lesson starts with describing pictures of old and new items which people use at home or at any place and eliciting what they represent.Having students generate the ideas about old or new machines and devices they use at home.What are the advantages and disadvantages of them.They will learn some compound nouns and how to pronounce them and how to mark the stress on the compound words.After that, Ss discuss which items they prefer and they give reasons.They also discuss if the ever have problems with these items.Finally, there is some free practice.

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a discussion in the context of old and new.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (4-5 minutes) • To set the lesson context, generate interest and activate schema To set lesson context and engage students

Introduce topic;look at the pictures and eliciting what they represent.Using CCQs to describe the pictures of old and new objects e g. Are they old or new? Which objects are old and which ones are new? Can you name them? Do you still have old objects? Are they useful? Where can you use them? which one uses electricity? Which object do you think it is the best? do you have a problem with any object of them? .Discussing the pictures

Exposure and highlight (5-7 minutes) • To provide a context for the TL and draw Ss attention to the TL

After naming some of the objects or actions in the pictures,giving them a handout asking them to work individually to match the modern items in column (A )with the more traditional items in column( B).Checking in pairs .Then whole class feedback.

Useful Language (6-8 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

T checks the meaning using ICCQs. Drill chorally and individually.Show how to mark the stress on the compound words.

Productive Task(s) (7-10 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Put Ss into pairs.Ask students to choose four pairs of objects.say which you prefer and give reasons.Discuss do they ever have problems with these objects. T monitors and checks sentences with guidance.
