Description

In this lesson,students will learn about geography.They will learn some vocabulary in relation to geographical terms,with exercises to follow to clarify what they have learned.They will also have reading practice in the context of geographical features.They will have exercises to practise their reading with a hint of writing.

Main Aims

  • To provide gist and detailed information reading practice using a text about where in the world in the context og geographical features.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification of some geographical words in the context of geographical features.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Students will see some pictures about geographical places in our world such as a picture of the Yellow River in China and I will ask them some CCQs about the pictures such as what about the first picture?,can you describe the second picture? to elicit the topic from the students.

vocabulary: pre -teaching (3-5 minutes) • To pre-teach students vocabulary that may be troublesome in the reading task

Students will see the difficult words on the board which are written on wall charts and I will prepare some pictures and the meaning of the words on the wall .Finally,I will ask the students to take the pictures and the meaning of words and match every word with its picture and meaning.

Pre-Reading or gist reading (7-10 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

I will give the students the reading text ,I will ask them to gist read the text for a minute or two and I will write two questions on the board:1-where is the second longest river in the world?2-what is the name of the country with the longest coastline in the world.I will ask the students to work in pairs to discuss these questions in 2 minutes and give me some information about this river and this coastline.

While Reading (5-7 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading tasks

I will give the students 3 minutes to read a text alone to answer the questions on the text in the student's book.I will ask the students to discuss in airs the answers of the questions.

Post-Reading/Listening (3-5 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

I will write two questions on the board about the text.Students will work in pairs to discuss theirs answers.

Feedback and error correction (2-4 minutes)

I will ask the students to write two sentences about the Yellow River in pairs and I will ask some students to read them and I will correct any mistakes and also I will give them a feedback after any activity.
