To provide specific information and deduction opportunity for students through the use of sound recordings.

Subsidiary Aims

To provide clarification of some new business vocabulary.

Procedure (41-50 minutes)

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students.

I will provide an explanation of who Jeff Thoms is and the role he fulfils at his company. 2 mins Ask the students if their company has an employee in a similar role. 3 mins

Listening: A (10-11 minutes) • To prepare students for issues while doing international business.

Ask students to look at the points 1 and 2, and discuss any issues they might know of. 2 mins. Will play the recording twice, then ask students if they have any issues with the language. 3-5 mins Play recording a third time if required and discuss points 1 and 2. 3-4 mins

Listening: B (10-11 minutes) • To provide students with a more challenging specific information listening task.

Ask the students to read the text and then illicit whether they understand what is being asked of them during listening task. 1-2 mins Play recording once, ask if there is any understanding issues: 3-5 mins Play recording again then illicit from students the answer. Mins 3-4

Listening: C (8-11 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction reading and listening task.

The students will listen to a recording 2-3 times and try and complete the missing vocabulary in the text. 5-6 mins Clarify any pronunciation and stress in the answers on whiteboard. 3-5 mins

Post-Reading/Listening: D (10-12 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned.

Students will be given time to decide which country they like to work in, if they had the opportunity. Decide which aspects of its culture they like. 2 mins Then students will discuss their preferences and why with class. 6-8 mins Any language points that have been difficult will be discussed. 2 mins
