In this lesson Ss will skim, scan and find specific information from a reading text about fashion. They will learn new vocabularies related to shopping and fashion. They will prepare a dialog of an interview with a fashion designer.

Main Aims

  • To provide gist, scan and detailed reading practice using a text about The Style Interview in the context of Fashion

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in an Interview


Warmer/Lead-in (3-6 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-T reddedinces himself to Ss, write his name on WB and draw 2 columns under it, divides Ss into groups, hands them strips of paper.. "These are some information about me, some are true and some are false. discuss in your group in 1 minute, then come to the WB and post it under True ot False." -ICQs, WCFB -T hands Ss cards about different brands in Turkey. "Which one do you prefer, and why? discuss with your group for 2 minutes" -FB

Pre-Reading (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

-T shows Ss samples of fashion magazines layout and covers. -T divides Ss into groups of three, provides them with materials about fashion. "Now each group will prepare a cover or a page of a fashion magazine, you have all the materials, photos and colors you may need. Don't write so much, you have 5 minutes." When they finish each group will present his magazine, then post his cover on the wall.

While-Reading #1 (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading tasks

-T chests, "Choose the correct topic for this text, read quickly, you have 1 minute". -WCFB -T chests: "Now read again and complete the gaps with the correct sentence from ex.c. you have 3 minutes. work alone." -Pair check -FB: T writes the gaps numbers (1 to 6) on WB, select Ss to come and write the answer. (A to F).

While-Reading #2 (9-11 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading tasks

-T chests: " Read the text again and choose true or false, read carefully this time, work alone, you have 4 minutes." -Pair check. -T hands Answer key. -T divides Ss into groups. Ss choose a leader. -T hands cards with words and phrases related to fashion and shopping from the reading text, then hands their definitions written on other cards. "Match the words and phrases with their meanings, you have 3 minutes" -FB: T posts the answers on WB, leaders should come and read the answers to their groups.

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

-In pairs Ss will prepare an interview and then present it in front of the class. "with your friend, one of you is a fashion designer and the other one is the host of a TV show. Prepare the dialog together, when you finish you will do the interview here.4 minutes" -T monitors, check errors.
