Description

In this lesson, learners will focus on receptive skills of listening. the context of this lesson is about cities with a listening task based on a character who lives in Vancouver, Canada. Students will be introduced to the usage of features through new vocabularies. Students will go on to talk about their own home town and then do a writing task.

Main Aims

  • To provide listening for specific details about the main character,Steve and his home town, Vancouver, Canada

Subsidiary Aims

  • to provide clarification and practice on new vocabularies. Also to practice productive skills like writing and speaking.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-T will show the Canadian flag on OHP and asks SS ' which country's flag?" ss: Canada -T:"do you know any city in Canada?" SS: reply... - T shows pix of Steve on OHP and elicits from SS, "What could be his name?, Where does he live?, Who is he with? where are they? what is his favorite food? does he like cycling?" T -T -ss," discuss in your group."

Pre-/Listening (5-6 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

- Ss will be divided into 2 groups through out the lesson. - to ensure there are no blocked vocab, we will play a matching exercise. - Ho of 10 photos and vocabularies will be given. - T to SS: match them, and stick them on the board. u have 3 min. whoever wins gets a point.' - ICQ; How many photos? How much time? Each group to stick it on CB. -T checks and gives feedback.

While-Listening #1 (8-9 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

- T-S; " lets learn about Steve. listen to him and put tick to things he talks about. focus only on list of things on the paper(use hand gestures).' -T will play the recording till have a small apartment there. -CCQ:T-S:' what does Steve talk about?' T will elicit the first 2 topics,{ his job and his apartment.} - t will play the rest. T-S ICQ" what will you focus on?' Ss reply - after the recording is done, let them check in pairs. - incase T can play the recording again. - WCFB T will put the Q on OHP and Ss will come and tick it.

While-Listening #2 (10-11 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

-T will hand out the text and ask them to Solo read the questions before we listen to the text again. T will play the recording till near the beach and elicit the answers to Q 1&2 -T will play the rest of the recording and Ss note down the answers. - T-S:' check in groups.' - T will use OHP the questions on CB, give markers to Ss to write down the ans on CB.

While-Listening #3 (5-6 minutes) • To provide Students with more challenging and detailed listening to focus on key points.

- T-WC: "we will listen to Steve talking to other people. listen and fill this chart." T will show Qs on OHP. T will play the first listening task till first conversation and elicit the answer as an example on the CB. Play the rest of the recording and SS will discuss in their groups and then write the answers on the board. WCFB on CB.

Post-Listening (8-9 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

-T will write 'Your home town.' on CB - T will bring a box of questions, each SS will pick one question and talk about it in the group." - Where do you live? -What is the famous food of your town? - what is there in your town? -What do you do there with your friends? - Where do you go shopping? -How do you travel? -Is it a good place to live? - which is the best place to visit there? - What is your favorite place? -T will give them a list of relevant vocab to help them with each question. -T will give a write up on 'write about your pairs town."
