Description

In this lesson the students will learn about how to ask for and giving directions. They start the lesson with a warm up activity where describe some directions as much as they can. After that, they will lesson to three dialogues about people asking for directions, then they will listen to another audio where people asking for directions. Students will go on and answer exercise three. Finally they will do a freer practice activity about asking for and giving directions.

Main Aims

Procedure

Warmer / Lead in (4-6 minutes) • To set the lesson context , generate interests and engage the students to interact.

I'm gonna ask students to help me to reach somewhere, Students start talking and describe to me how I can reach this place, engage the student to talk about directions and elicit the different ways they used to describe the directions then put it on the white board.

Listening (5-7 minutes) • To provide listening for interference and specific information about directions

First of all: The students will listen to three dialogues where people are asking for directions, then the students have to write down, 1-the name of the place where the speakers looking for 2-How they are going to get there (by car, bus, ect..) Secondly: The student will listen to another audio within four ways of asking for and giving directions and while listening they have to complete the gaps in the sentences (Activity 2)

Language focus (3-5 minutes) • To provide clarification on meaning of the TL in the context of asking for and giving directions

Step1 :Request. Elicit from Ss answers what was the four requests the people made in the previous conversations. Write tem on the board. Ask students to work together and decide which one of them they used when they are asking for directions. Step2 :Responds. Elicit from the students the different ways to give direction and check their pronunciation.

Practice (5-7 minutes) • To provide practice and concept check of the TL and prepares Ss for freer activity

The teacher will set the context, do concept checking Qs, monitoring and give the feedback. Students will match the sentence in the box to the pictures. First they will work individually for four minutes and the teacher will monitor and provide help it it is necessary, after that they will check in pairs. Finally the teacher will give the student the feedback.

Free practice (7-10 minutes) • To provide fluency speaking of the TL about Asking for and giving directions in the context of (Real life)

Student will do a freer activity. They will be divided into student A and student B. Students will do a role play activity, student A will ask about the directions and student B try to describe the directions , then will change the turns Student B will ask for directions and student A will rry to give him the suitable directions. (Activity 5)
