Description

In this lesson, students will practise asking and answering questions through a “dialogue building” technique.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of language used for buy and order. in the context of food items

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of food

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Start with Pictures on Powerpoint. Elicit: fruits, vegetables & food stuffs. Put the same pictures on the board after drilling with their names. Put the pictures of عm Mahmoud, Mona & the Building. Elicit: عمارة، عم محمود البواب و أستاذة منى Ask: What does Mona want?

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Pre-teach Vocab: (كيلو (ربع كيلو،نص كيلو برطمان علبة كيس إزازة لو سمحت حاضر الحساب الباقي Make sure they understand the meaning of those words to be able to use them in the dialogue.

Highlighting & Clarification (12-15 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Use prompt cards to build the dialogue. For each line: elicit using the prompt, give model, check meaning if necessary, drill in chorus then open pairs. Always recap before each new line. After every even number of lines go through the dialogue T-SS then switch roles. After 2 even number of lines, get SS to work in closed pairs saying the lines, then switch roles. Give SS handout of the whole dialogue at the end.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Change pairs and let SS say the whole dialogue in their new pairs. Play music in the background.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Let them choose Food items and order from the doorman.
