Future forms

Description

In this lesson, students learn about three different forms of future, and practice MFPA, then produce the TL in speaking task.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T introduces himself and asks students' names. T writes on the board: 'what is your plan for next holiday'. T asks Ss to talk about it to their partners. T monitors Ss, then he elicits some answers from some students.

Test #1 (6-8 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

T gives the instructions, Ss are going to put the sentences into three groups, then check their answers with their partners. T checks the instructions. Ss do the task, check their answers, then T does WC FB.

Teach (8-10 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

T puts three sentences on the board, one by one he clarifies the MFPA, and then asks some CCQs to check if they have understood it or not.

Test #2 (10-12 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

T gives the instructions, Ss are going to read the conversation individually and choose the correct answer, then check with their partners. T sets the time, Ss do the task. T gets students attention. They are going to listen and check their answers. T does a quick WC FB. T gives the next instruction, Ss are going to listen and write six sentences. T checks the instructions. T plays the audio, Ss write. T does WCFB. T tells Ss that in each sentence there are two words that often go together, he gives them the words and drills chorally and individually. Then he gives the new instructions; students are going to listen and repeat the sentences. T plays the audio, Ss listen and repeat.

Free practice (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

T regroups the Ss, T gives the instructions, Ss are going to write their own excuse or the help they can offer, T monitors Ss while they are writing. T gives the instruction, Ss are going to call each other and explain the situation. T checks the instructions, Ss work in groups and do the task, T monitors, and writes down some mistakes. T does WC FB.
