In this lesson, students will be able to practise reading and listening for specific information in the context of transport

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide specific information listening practice using a text about travelling in the context of Do a transport survey

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a closed pairs in the context of travelling

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T. shows Ss a picture of cycles. - T. asks students about what they see in the picture? -Excepted answers: bikes -Bicycles- ...etc

Pre-Reading (5-10 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

-T . sets context to pre-teach vocabulary context one day, I went in a long trip ( journey) to a wonderful place. Once i arrived, I heard of a bicycles programme ( cycle scheme), so i wanted to join it (share) before i return back to my country and (leave) the other one. T. asks CCQS to check understanding " Lexis analysis sheet"

While-Reading (1-3 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

-T. asks students to read the text very quickly and answer ex 1a. -T. asks students to revise answers in pairs. T. provides answers.

Post-Reading (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

-T. distributes a slip of paper that includes some questions. -T. asks students to work in pairs, but he demonstrates first. -T. asks students to work in closed pairs first then open pairs.

post listening (6-10 minutes) • For students to get engaged in the listening activity

- T. asks students whether they like travelling or no?,where would they like ti go?...etc -T. elicits answers. T. gives students a paper for a survey to answer. -T. asks students to look at this paper and try to form questions first using the words between brackets. -T. answers the first two questions as examples. -T- asks students to check answers in pairs . -T. provides students with the answers.

while- listening (3-5 minutes) • to practise listening for specific information

- T . tells students that they will listen to someone talking about how does he travel. - T. asks students to listen and choose the correct answer.

post-listening (8-10 minutes) • to provide opportunity to respond to the text

-T asks students to work in pairs. T. asks them to make a dialogue using these questions. T. demonstrates first. - T. monitors and asks students to exchange pairs if time allows.
