Description

in this lesson students are introduced to the context of a tv show, where contestants have to define words for each other.the will practice the receptive skill which is listening. the lesson will be started by flower man game for lead-in, followed by some pre teach vocab, and they will have to listen to an audio about games and the rules, they will read for gist and specific to encourage their general understanding. then as a post listening task they will be provided with some word games to allow to react to what we covered before

Main Aims

  • To provide gist and specific information listening practice using a text about what's the word in the context of tv game shows

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification of tv game words in the context of tv game shows

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

 -The T will start the lesson by telling the Ss that they are going to play a word game.  -T draw a flower man game with the word “dictionary”  -T asks Ss do you like playing games: like scrabble, monopoly, and crossed words.  -Listen to some answers, and tell them to look at the bottom of the page there is a scrabble letter, in pairs how many words of four letters they can you come up with ( you have 3 minutes) say some possible answers: Bring-great-dish-clean-shine-blond……  -a bit more of a challenge you have 2 more minutes to make the longest word you can, you will be scored by the number of letters.

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

-T will unblock some lexis in order to help the Ss understands the next stages -See the language analysis

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

Reading for gist:  T she will give project for them ex 1-b with questions: what’s the word and how do you play the game? T will play the audio 2.2 for the Ss and they will listen to the introduction of a tv show, T will ask them to take some notes and they compare with their partners when T plays it again.  T will elicit some of the rules from the Ss:  how many contestants are there?(2 lola and martin)  how many words can martin see on the tv screen?(six)  who is going to guess the words?(lola/the contestant)  Which words can’t marting use? ( the words on the tv screen) For example: T draws a card with a taxi driver on it, tell them that martin can’t use the word taxi or driver or drive, how can we describe it? A person who has a car you pay him to take you everywhere

While-Reading/Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Reading for specific: Ss now listen to 2.3 audio the rest of the show. They have to listen to martin’s definitions. - They will not hear lola’s answers, so they have to guess the word. they should write down some answers do not say them. - T will play the audio again and this time with the answers they have to compare their answers to the audio. ( words we have nurse, supermarket, mobile, blond, clever, turn off)

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

To give them an opportunity to react to what covered above,since they are in the game show mode the teacher will give some word games sheet like celebrity anagram and, mystery scramble. Or play the game guess the word page 2017 (english file 3rd edition TB) and they have to guess the words.
