In this lesson Ss are going to learn food vocabulary in the context of eating and drinking, they will also practice gist reading and scan reading with texts about Comfort Food. After that they are going to have a discussion about the subject to apply TL

Procedure

Introduction (3 minutes) • to introduce the subject of food to SS

T shows picture of some food SS work in pairs: "what did you have for breakfast this morning?" SS feedback to the class: Tell me about your partner.

Pre-Vocabulary test (1-2 minutes) • to elicit what SS already know

T shows a diagram containing 3 categories about food and asks SS to write down what they know in groups, then SS feed back to T.

Vocabulary presentation (6-8 minutes) • Clarify the use and the meaning of some food related words

T shows pic1 and elicits from SS T checks understanding of the words: Cook; Do you cook before or after the meal? Eat; Do you eat after or before you cook? Serve; Is the meal served before or after you eat? Taste; Do you taste before or after you eat? Breakfast; Do you have breakfast in the morning or in the evening? Lunch; Do you have lunch in the break or in the evening? Dinner; Do you usually have dinner with your family? Snack; Do you have snacks between meals or with lunch? Bitter; does black coffee taste bitter or salty? Salty; Do nuts taste salty or sweet? Spicy; Tarhana soup, is it spicy or bitter? Sweet; Is Baklawa salty or sweet? Fresh; Do you buy fresh or frozen vegetables? T doesn't have to use all Qs, T can choose only words causing problems to SS.

Pre-Reading (1-2 minutes) • To introduce the idea of Comfort Food

T shows a picture of a famous local food and elicits from SS the idea of Comfort Food. Do people like it and eat it a lot in Turkey? Is it a familiar meal?

Gist Reading (2-3 minutes) • to provide a controlled gist reading practice

T asks SS to tell how many Comfort Food are discussed in the article in 30 sec Check: in pairs then whole class feedback

Scan Reading (4-6 minutes) • To provide a controlled reading practice for specific information

T asks SS to read again and fill a chart contains; Name, Country and Ingredients Check: in pairs then whole class feedback

Post-Reading (1-2 minutes) • To personalise TL

T asks SS to talk in pairs 'Do you have a comfort food?' Open class feedback

Close Reading (8-10 minutes) • To provide a semi-controlled reading for details practice

SS read the texts adapted from CB write down facts and notes tell your partner about it open class feedback

Speaking Practice (4-6 minutes) • To provide a freer practice of vocabulary by speaking in a semi-controlled activity

In Pairs SS ask and answer Qs adapted from CB Open class feedback

Feedback and Error Correction (3 minutes) • To correct some of SS mistakes and make a final check

T picks up some errors in SS language and writes them down on WB and makes a whole class feedback
