Reading and vocabulary Lesson Plan
Pre-Intermediate B1 level
To help students develop their reading skills such as skimming, taking notes, scanning, predicting To help students acquire new words and guess their meanings from the text
Ss will be able to analyze vocabulary and grammar. Ss will be able to communicate by using newly learned language
Procedure (30-40 minutes)
T puts a picture of an airport on the WB, assigns Ss in pairs and asks them to think of at least 5 things people do when they are in the airport. Ss share their utterances with the whole class.
T hands out a worksheet including all airport signs and words and asks Ss to match the pictures to the words in pairs. After ss’ labelling the signs, T elicits the answers. T firsts covers the title of the text. Ss are asked to read only the sub-titles and predict the title of the text. Moreover, Ss are to describe what the text might be about.
Ss are given a worksheet (Activity 2) in which they have to read the text quickly and label each photo with the names of the airports
Following, Ss are involved in more challenging activity. They are to read the text carefully and take notes while reading. After reading the text, They are supposed to ask for suggestions from their peers and complete the chart using their own words (Activity 3). This activity is PW. Therefore, they have to exchange information about top airports around the world. Lastly, Ss are supposed to go through the text for the last time and pay attention to the highlighted words. They are encouraged to guess their meanings from the context. Following, they match the words to their explanations on Activity 4.
Ss are given a role play card (Activity 5) in which they are told what to do. Ss swap their roles and talk about what they will do under the situation stated.
