In this lesson Ss will learn "Present Continuous Tense" in the context of a famous painting by David Hockney, which has an interesting story behind it.The lesson starts with a description of the painting. After that, Ss look at using present continuous tense for things that are happening now,around now,and describing what is happening in a picture. The form will be completed by Ss and the pronunciation of "- ing /ɪŋ/ " will be drilled through the examples.Then, Ss having a listening activity where they hear about the story behind the painting.Finally, Ss will describe/talk about the painting.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Have Ss to talk about the painting "Mr and Mrs Clark and Percy by David Hockney" in pairs.

Exposure Pre-teach Gist- Listening Detailed- Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Pre-teach Work on the words through a PPT presentation. Gist Have Ss listen to the track 1.24. Have them focus on the people and the things in the painting, and take notes.Work individually. ICQs: What are we focusing on? People and the things. Are you working alone?Yes. Detailed Have Ss listen the track 1.24 again and mark the sentences T(True) or F (False) individually. ICQs: Are we working alone? Yes. Peer check. ICQs: Are we checking in pairs? Feedback on the board. Have Ss come to the board and mark T or F and have Ss explain why it is false.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Have Ss look at the painting and ask Ss to answer the questions in pairs; " What is she/he/it (the cat) doing?". Elicit answers, write them on the board. Underline the present continuous and ask Ss which tense it is. Elicit the answers and write "Present Continuous Tense" on the board.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Have Ss read the model sentences and talk about them in pairs. Ask them when do we use Present Continuous Tense. Elicit the anwers, help them with visuals and show the answers.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

1. Change the pairs. Have Ss write the sentences with present continuous, individually. Have Ss check their answers in pairs. Check the answers on the board. 2. Have ss to complete the sentences with present continuos, individually. Peer- check. Check the answers on the board.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Group ss. Have Ss talk about the pictures, in groups. ICQs: Are we talking alon? No. In group? Yes. Error correction on the board.
