Description

In this lesson, the students will learn about a fashion model named Gina, her personal life as well as her professional life. The students will read for gist and detail comprehension about Gina. The lesson starts with the question "what is your favourite food/ drink . They will listen to the track and answer the questions about Gina Macy. Finally there is controlled practices of functional language (wh questions)

Main Aims

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T sticks a student's picture on the board and draws different nodes namely (food, drink, sport, song, TV programme, day of the week and city). T asks the first question "what is your favourite food?" T throws the ball to a student and asks him/her to fill the gap "what is your favourite________ (drink/sport/song)" and asks the question to other student.

Pre-Reading (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

T shows flash cards of seven (7) keywords to students and asks them to name them . 1) T holds the card of the word "Fashion". T asks a) it belongs to hair, clothing b) Paris is very famous for it. c) Young people like it 2) Married a) its opposite of single b) two people are linked together. 3) Photographer a) It's a job b) you need a camera for this c) T shows the picture of it. 4) Designer a) a person who makes something new especially clothing b) models love to have their clothing c) its a kind of job 5) Choose a) its opposite of reject b) stem sentence "help me to ........... a suitable coat" T pronounce the keywords (Fashion, married, photographer, designer, choose) drills with the students. T writes the keywords on the board and drill again and let the students say individually.

While-Reading/ (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

T shows the picture of Gina Macy and asks the students if they know her. T tells the students that they are going to talk about Gina Macy who is a fashion model. they students are going to learn about her private and professional life. T shows 2 sets of questions and answers consisting of 12 pieces of paper. T draws a vertical line on the board and name the group A, B T puts the pieces of paper in random order and asks the students to work in group and find the correct answer for each question.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

T asks the students to listen to the track 7.1 about Gina Macy. T shows the students HO and asks the students to choose the correct answers about Gina out of 3 options. Students work alone. Students check their work in pairs. T writes the answers on the board and asks the students to check their answers.

Post-Reading (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Functional Language:(Wh questions) T shows and sticks 5 words (Where, When, Who, Why and How many) on the boards T puts 5 pictures (Turkey, Mohammad Ali boxer, Sunday, Because and Ten) randomly on the boards and asks the students to think in pairs and match the correct picture to the words (wh questions). T shows HO Ex 3 to the students and asks them to fill in the blank with Wh questions (Where, When, Who, Why, How many). Ss work individually. T asks them to cross check in pairs T writes the answers on the board.
