Description

In this lesson Ss learn about much more vocabulary about food items and to learn correct pronunciation of the words in the means of stress ,syllable and phonetics.Connect to healthy food pyramid then get Ss think about how variously food they have in a day. after that in pairs they quickly talk about their eating habits.

Materials

Abc New Inside Out Inter B1 Student's book Unit 5 p42 speaking 1 ,2 and vocabulary & pronunciation 1,2

Main Aims

  • To provide review of items of food in the context of fruits,vegetables,dairy products ,meat and fish

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a semi-controlled dialouge activity in the context of food

Procedure

Warmer (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Have Ss play a memory game to refresh their memories about Food. The game I choose named " Run to the Board".Split the class into two groups to be a bit creative named "Apricot" and "Melon". ICQs are about the rules of the games such as" How many minutes do you have?""Can you right the same word within the group?"

lead-in (5-7 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a picture

Show Ss a picture of the items of food: in groups Ss have 2 minutes to write as many words as they know. Handout exercise 2. from the SB have Ss check the things they wrote on their list on their own. Ss in pairs look at the exercise 2. again and circle words they do not know then swap pairs to see if Ss can get the words from other -listen carefully for PRON issues here and correcr afterwards.

Highlighting (5-7 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Show Ss the color coded version of exercise 2. and ELICIT NAMES for the different food groups. Have Ss do an activity about the food category worksheet and ask them to put in the correct category.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the food vocabulary

Have the SS mark the stress themselves.if they aren't sure about the syllable help them with the idea of using fingers. then get them listen to the audio track 2.02 and have them check. In pairs SS say the words and monitor to help their pronunciations.

Controlled Practice (5-7 minutes) • To have Ss master the stress and pronunciation of the words

Have SS practice the correct pronunciation of the words by repeating the listening audio track.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • Expand food vocabulary to include the food pyramid

Elicit from SS the food pyramid then get Ss to think about how much of the various food groups they eat in a day; In pairs they quickly talk about their eating habits and if they eat more or less of the suggested amounts. Some help with language they might need. By CCQs like "do you regularly eat................? do you avoid................? Why?"

Free Practice (5-7 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language with dialogues

To have Ss speak about what they have learned get them do Speaking exercise 1. from SB with individually to guess "who is a vegetarian?.......who is....?" Have them mingle to go around the class and ask each other to check their own ideas about the class .
