Description

In this lesson, students will learn and discuss the possible ways that people rebel against their families. They will focus on reading using sub-skills (skimming and scanning).Students will be shown pictures of different rebels to help lead-in to the main text. Tasks will be around fast reading for gist and then detail reading for finer points. They will follow this up with a short freer speaking, discussing their own personalized opinions on the topic.

Materials

Main Aims

  • Students will do reading of the text,"Rebel'. After the lead-in with the help of pictures, students will follow through the sub-skills(skimming and scanning)through the text. Teacher will ellicit from the students about some of the words from the text before the while reading stage begins.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide freer speaking practice in a conversation about other ways people rebel and whether students themselves had rebelled against their families when they were younger.

Procedure

Lead-in/Pre-reading (7-8 minutes) • to set the context and engage students for the text and make it accessible

1. T: Greets students and asks, 'welcome back after the weekend, I hope everyone had fun?'' SS: answer.... 2. T:(she will switch on the ppt,)' Now, lets see, what do you think is happening in the photo? Who is he?? what are they doing? and BIr zamanlar Osmanli Kiyam(English title " Once upon a time in the Ottoman Empire: Rebellion"(official site:http://www.trt.net.tr/televizyonon/detay.aspx?pid=29982) will be showed, T will ask them, 'who do you think they are?' 3. T will get WCFB from SS. T will ask Ss, 'what makes people rebel in life ? talk with your partner.' WCFB T will write down their list on the CB.

Pre-teaching Vocab. (9-10 minutes) • To elecit/check students know what some of the words mean.

1.T will try to elicit blocking words of the text from the SS, with the help of a teacher made HO on word meanings. 2. T-SS: 'You are going to read the words in column A and match them with their meanings in column B. I'm going to give you 3 min starting from now.' Solo. 3. T will ask ICQ's: 'Are you going to work alone or with your partner?' SS: alone 'What will you do with words in column A? SS...(after 2 minutes.) 4. T will ask the ss " Now talk about your answers with your partner." PW 5. T: WCFB " lets see what do these words mean, Join, commit, crime, inappropriate, and circus "

while reading (17-18 minutes) • To provide Students with gist(scanning) and detailed reading of the text (skimming).

1. T will chest the HO to SS,' You are going to read an article about three other famous people who have also rebelled against their family. please fold the paper and read Q1. I want you to take 1 min to just read the questions..' 2. T will do ICQ's from SS: ' Will you read the text or the questions?' after 1 min. 3. T -SS ,'Now unfold the paper and I will give you 4 min to read the text and answer Q1. 4. T-SS will do ICQ's, 'Are you going to read it alone or with your partner?' SS: alone. After 4 min. 4.T : 'talk about it with your partner.' PW and then do WC FB 5. T will tell SS,' now read the text in detail and do Q.2 with your partner.I will give you 5 min.' 6. T will then tell the SS, " work with your pair and talk about these questions." WCFB 7. post reading (9-10 minutes) • to provide students with an oppurtunity for freer speaking

1. T will chest the Ho and show anecdote written at the end of the HO to the SS. and tell them,'Now think about a time when you got into trouble as a child and talk about it with your partner." after 4 minutes. 2. T will tell SS ' now go talk about it with others in the class.'GW 3. WCFB: T will ask the Ss, 'Would anyone of you like to share their story?'' if none responds, T can take name of any SS. 4.T will do delayed error correction or if needed on the spot correction.
