In this lesson, Ss will be introduced to the present perfect to talk about the recent past. The context is parents and teenagers

Main Aims

  • For students to practice reading for gist and for details in the context of understanding and exchanging basic information

Subsidiary Aims

  • For students to review and practice the morphology of regular verbs in the present simple (she/he+v+s/es)

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T introduces himself writing some wrong statments about him: I am a student, I work in a hospital. Ss take turn to correct. T shows a picture of an Ikea Manager and a picture of a female doctor in a hospital. and asks Ss what they can see? ( Ss discuss in pairs) -Feedback T gives out part b p 17. (PW) Feedback : the difference between work/works.

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

T shows the photographs from part 1 C. Ss take turn to make sentences using the cutouts. WC feedback.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

T writes the title (Donna's family) on the board and plays the recording 1.40 p 18 and asks them what information they can find.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

T tells Ss the names of places and shows the 3 pictures then plays the recording and asks Ss to make sentences about Donna's family. WC feedback. T gives out activity 2 p 18. Ss work together. T elicits the difference between the voiced (lives) and the voiceless (works) T gives out activity 3 WC correction on the board.

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

T asks Ss to write about someone they know. e.g. My sister lives in Marrakech, she works in a bank. Feedback
