Description

In this lesson, Ss will practice using vocabulary about families such as, a boy, a girl, two boys. and numbers from 0 to 10.

Main Aims

  • To provide practice of family lexis and numbers in the context of family.

Subsidiary Aims

  • Ss will practice numbers from 0 to 10.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T draws a boy on the board, then another boy. Eliciting who they are.T draws a girl then another girl eliciting who they are. T helps Ss elicit that they are a family and the number of the members.

Exposure (10-15 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

T gives Ss a hand out bout a story about a family and their numbers. T asks them questions about the story such as how many brothers and sisters are there in the family? T gives Ss hand outs. Ss, look at the pictures on p.(1.a) and speak about it, in pairs.T asks some of them to speak aloud. T uses recording (1.16) to help them listen. Ss look at number (2). They read the sentences and answer them. T uses recording (1.17) to help them check the answer.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

T gives Ss a hand out. Ss read and answer the questions, W h questions and yes, no questions. Ss use numbers. T checks their answers.

Clarification (5-8 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

T writes sentences on the board asking Ss to repeat to clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language. I am married. I am not single. I have five children. I have four girls. I have one boy. T says and Ss repeat. T corrects pronunciation.

Controlled Practice (5-6 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Ss listen to recording (1.19) and do the task individually. Ss change the paper with his partner. T checks their answer.

Semi-Controlled Practice (5-6 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

T asks them , in pairs, to look at p.87 and one chooses a picture to talk about, the other says which picture and says the number. T checks their answers.

Free Practice (4-5 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

T lets Ss talk about their families. they talk in pairs. Ss can come to the board and every one can talk about his family.
