Description

In this lesson Ss will practice the time phrases. The lesson starts with introduction of the time phrases in the content of daily routines. Students will then practice pronouncing the time phrases.This is followed by an activity where students practice the time phrases in a group activity. Next, Ss will become more familiar with the topic and they will do a pair activity game. They will ask questions and give answers about the topic. Finally, they will find correct prepositions, write questions and ask them to the other Ss in the class.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification, review and practice of time phrases that are used with the prepositions "at", "in" and "on" and the adjective "every" in the context of daily routines

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide review of time words in the context of daily routines
  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a converstation in the context of time phrases
  • To provide review of the present simple tense

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Ask the Ss some questions in Simple Present Tense, which they have just learned by using the time phrases. The questions will inquire the time phrases of the sentences and so the SS will answer them by having to use them. The questions will be answered by volunteers.

Controlled Practice-focus on the meaning of TL (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Write the days of the week on the board and ask them what they are. Then write a sentence on the board about yourself and ask them which preposition can be used before the days of the week. ex: I play volleyball ..... Mondays. I play volleyball every Monday Give ex. 9 to find which time matches with the correct preposition of time. SS do it in pair, ask early finishers to come to the board and write the answers on the board. Practice pronunciation

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

Get the students to practice the time phrases in context. Tell the students that they will role-play a dialogue of two people speaking in the school about their free time or daily/weekly activities. Demonstare it with a student first. Ss in pairs role-play.

Productive Task(s) (8-10 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Explain the Ss snap card game. One pair will get A cards and one will get B cards. They will snap whenever the right preposition comes with the correct time phrase. Demonstrate first. Ss in pairs play the game. They need to do it several times.

Controlled Practice-Personalisation (14-16 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the dialogue and expand

Divide the groups in to three and give each member of the group A, B or C. Tell Ss that they will have to find the correct preposition -e.g. watch TV every/in evening and write 5 questions -e.g. Do you watch TV every evening?, then they will ask the other Ss in the class their questions. Ss find two people who answer yes for ech question. Write their names in the table. Ss tell the class about the people in their table. e.g. Musa and Sezai both watch TV every evening. If I have time, I will give ex. 2 on the workbook. Ss in pairs correct the words.

Feedback and Error Correction (2-3 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

Give FB on the things which were wrong on the board (delayed FB) if needed an immediata FB will be given too.
