In this Lesson, learners read a text based on personality assessment questions. They also learn vocabulary related to success in life and a successful career.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (4-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I am going to show Ss pictures of some famous and successful people, asking their opinion about things that make someone famous and successful in life and in their career.

Pre-Reading (4-5 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

I am going to give Ss a handout on Ex.1 containing some phrases about forms of success and they will be asked to arrange them from the most to the least important according to their own ideas. Then, I am going to pre-teach them some phrases and words that might be difficult for them by giving them a handout containing these phrases from ex2.b.

While-Reading 1 (5-6 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading tasks

Ss will be asked to gist read the questions of the psychometric test individually without choosing answers of any of the questions, and then guess what element these questions might refer to, choosing this element from ex.1.

While-Reading 2 (6-7 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading tasks

Ss work individually, answering the questions and they should give a reason for each answer they give.

Post-Reading/speaking and pronunciation (6-7 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

I will give them a handout of the assessment results on page 140 from the coursebook, as they are asked to add up their scores and ask them if they agree with the assessment and why. I am also going to ask them to work in pairs to complete the table in ex.4 and I will show them the pronunciation of important words such as; jealous-workaholic-ambition-determination-determined-confidence.
