Main Aims

  • Listening about child prodigies.

Subsidiary Aims

  • Grammar- clarify use of could as used in the past.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (8-12 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will stick some photos on the board. The photos will include someone who can and can't do activities. I will give names to the people in the photos. I will create a story about them in the past and the present.

Pre-Reading/Listening (3-5 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

First, I am going to show them Einstein's photo to make them understand the word prodigy. I am going to ask them what they know about him and I am going to make them work in pairs. After that, I will stick the photos on the board from exercise 1 on page 41 and I will make them understand the word ''child prodigy'' from the photos. I will tell them that we are going to listen about child prodigies.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

I will ask them for listening to the track and taking notes about it and I will tell the students to make groups and discuss their answers. and I will ask them a couple of questions to make sure that they understand the general idea of the listening.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

I will ask questions in detail after they read the examples in 2. The questions will be about if these things in the past or present and I will use CCQs one by one like ''Can he play the guitar?'' ''Was he born in March?''

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

I will remind them the photos that I used in the beginning of the lesson and I will tell some example sentences about them. After that, I will make the students write a paragraph about themselves or their family. The writing will be about the things that they could do before and can't do now. After the students finish, I will ask them for changing their papers to check.
