Description

In this lesson, the students will do some listening and grammar about the past experiences. They will be doing a specific listening task first then they will follow this up with being introduced to past simple and continuous grammar by eliciting the form of the tense and get them involved with an activity after that get Ss talk about their own past experiences.

Main Aims

  • To provide practice of the past continuous tense in the context of enicdotes

Subsidiary Aims

  • Listening: to provide key information to tell the difference between the simple past and the past continuous.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T will ask Ss some questions about himself/herself to refresh Ss' memory about him/her and connect the facts to tell an anecdote.

Pre-listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the listening through a situation

T will tell an interesting situation that he has had in Turkey to draw Ss' attentions then Focus Ss' attentions on the photos of three people and the table .Explain that they will here these people being interviewed about their past experiences.Focus attention on the example and tell them what to do with the table below.

Gist Listening (5-7 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a listening

Use the listening ex 1 to expose Ss to the TL .Listen to the interview and connect the key information from each person's story.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

to get Ss to think about the meaning : grammar ex1 and work with the form of the tense using the PPT slides.

Controlled Practice (5-7 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

T will get Ss to do ex 1-2 to check if they tell the difference between the past simple and past continuous.

Semi-Controlled Practice (10-12 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

apply new way to do an activity by using plickers cards and have Ss do the drills to compete with each other.

Free Practice (5-7 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Get back to the listening part and focus Ss attention to write their own stories using the form of tenses are introduced then tell each other.
