Description

In this lesson, the students will learn present continuous tense and how to differentiate it from the present simple tense. In regards to teaching materials, the students will be asked to listen an audio of a script related to a famous painting, as well as the handouts of the audio file's script, additionally true-false questions.

Main Aims

  • To provide gist listening practice using a text about new lexis in the context of Family

Procedure

Warmer / Lead In (1-3 minutes) • To engage Ss with a picture and give an opportunity to brainstorm

Ss will be provided by a picture of a painting, and asked to describe it in their own words. They will be directed with simple questions regarding the portrayals of relationships between the characters instead of materialized things, and appearances.

Highlights (2-4 minutes) • To draw Ss attention, how they may differ from each other by looking at the same picture based on their assumptions before the listening material

Upon the information gathered based on WC interactions, the Ss will be separated into GW by opponent sides.

Clarifications (8-10 minutes) • To draw Ss attention to the listening and therefore improve their listening skills.

Ss will be exposed to a new material, which is an audio file of the painting's actual script, then they will be directed to CCQ by T. For example if their assumptions were close enough, etc.

Controlled Practices (8-10 minutes) • Ss will be asked to demonstrate their understanding of the new vocabulary by new material.

The HO about the script organized by True & False Questions will be distributed to Ss and they will work on it individually.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • Adaptation of the new lexis by Ss, and STT by internalized examples of their experiences of the related words.

Ss will be asked to adapt these words into their own life experiences, for example if they ever been married, or divorced, or become pregnant, typicalness of roles in their own family, so therefore they have some certain understanding of concepts of targeted words, which are; Typical, expecting a baby, relationship, separation, divorce, murderer, and infidelity.
