Main Aims

  • Reading to identify key points

Subsidiary Aims

  • Speaking: fluency: explaining why a photo is important to you

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T will post a print-out of the question 'what do you think is the best way to meet your life partner or new friends?' on the board and ask Sts to discuss it in groups of 3. T-S task feedback (elicit a few ideas)

Pre-Reading/Listening (14-15 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

T posts flashcards of the blocking vocabulary on the board and asks Ss whether they are familiar with them and elicit some answers. T explains any difficult vocabs using different techniques -gestures, association, situation, definition, etc.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

Ss will sit into groups of four, and each group will look at one of the four pics in the book and try to guess the relationship between the charecters in their pic, question number 1. (2-3 minutes) (time limit for guessing is one minute) Ss will individually then read the part of the text that is related to their picture only - parts are to be cut for each student of each group- and check their answers from the text and then find the AK on the back of the pic. (30 seconds) (time limit) Ss read about their charecters again and try to remember as much information as possible because they will be asked about it later. (2 minutes) Ss regroup in groups of four - one student from each group of the previous groups - and tell about thier picture and the charecters to the other Ss -Ss may look at the text if needed- and then Ss answer question number 2 all together. Ss check the AK on the back of the questions HO. (5-6 minutes)

Post-Reading/Listening (13-16 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

T models the next activity by showing a pic of himself/herself with a close person(s) - a family member or friend- and have Ss guess what kind of a relationship they have while telling about the picture and the relationship using phrases form the text - on the left/right, behind/next/in front of, etc. (3-4 minutes) Ss underline any useful phrases from the text that they will need to describe their pics. (1-2 minutes) Ss work in pairs. Student A will show a pic of themselves with a close person or people and have student B guess what kind of a relationship they have. Then student A will tell about their relationship with the people in the pic and describe the pic. Ss change turns. (8-10 minutes)
