Description

In this lesson, students will practice in listening in the context of a game show. The lesson will start with students discussing the visuals of a game show and telling some popular ones that they watch on television. They will listen parts of a television game show and complete listening for specific information tasks. The question forms will be shortly revised using the listening text. Finally, they will discuss their first meeting experiences.

Main Aims

  • To give students practice in listening for specific information in the context of a game show about couple's first meetings

Subsidiary Aims

  • To review question forms and to give students freer speaking practice

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To encourage students to think about the context of the listening text

T hangs the visual of a game show called "Who wants to be a Millionnaire?" and asks the ss questions about it like 'Do we have a similiar game show in Turkey? Do you like watching it? Do you want to join a game show one day? T asks the ss other game shows they watch on tv and write their examples on board.

Pre-listening (5-7 minutes) • To link the context of the game shows to the listening text and to pre-teach blocking words

*T projects the photo of the host of the game show 'Get Personal' and asks ss to say who they think this man is. * T informs the students they are going to listen the host on photo presenting a game show . *T clarifies the meanigs of some blocking words like 'host' and 'get a point' in the context of competitions.

While listening (15-20 minutes) • To practice scan listening for specific information

* T chests the HO and instructs the students to read the statements before listening and decide whether they are true or false, if false why? ICQ questions ; Are you going to read the statements before or after listening? * T gives the HOs to students and gives them a minute to read. * Ss listens the audio and answer * Ss check in pairs * Listen again and WC feedback * T chests another HO and informs students they will listen second part of the game show and gives them the instructions. ' Write out the questions Bobby Brown asks Rosie' ' Underline Rosie's answers while listening.' * T gives the HO s to the ss * T elicits the question form of past simple on the example and writes it on board When did you meet? question word+did+subject+base form * Ss try and write questions in pairs * T monitors them * Ss listen and check their answers about question form part and underline the answers that Rosie gives. * Ss check answers in pairs * Listen again * WC feedback

If-time activity (8-10 minutes) • To practice listening for detailed comprehension

*T informs the students they will listen David's answers to the same questions . * T tells ss to tick if he gives the same answer as Rosie and circle close if he gives a different answer. *Ss check their answers in pairs *Listen again * WC feedback

Post Listening (5-10 minutes) • To develop oral fluency by providing an opportunity to react to the text and to personalise the topic

*T asks students to think about the first time they met somebody important for them. *T gives an example by telling one of her first meetings. *Ss discuss their first meetings in small groups *T monitors them *WC feedback
