Description

In this lesson, students will learn how to write a covering letter. It will start with a lead in discussion to attract students's attention to the lesson then they will do some exercises about how to write a letter, then they will practice it.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will make a short discussion about working abroud as a lead in to attract their attention to the aim of the lesson. I will ask them some questions such as: ''If they have a chance to work abroud, in which country would they like to work? and why? If they have that chance what they should do or how they could communicate with the company?'' Then they will give some suggestions, such as: through internet,or website, by sending a letter or a message. Then I will use the word 'letter' to ask them: ''Have you ever sent a letter to any one? Do you know what are the steps you need to send a letter?''

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

The students will make an exercise about how to write a letter, it is an example of someone who sent a letter to a company. Students will put the steps in order, to make the letter completed in the right way.

Useful Language (3-5 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

I will highlight and clarify some words thet they can use while writting the letter. I will focus on their meanings, pronunciation and the stress in the words.

Productive Task(s) (7-10 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Students will write a similar letter to Horizons Unlimited in response to their advertsment that students will read from page 54. They would mention where they would like to work and what kind of work they would be interested in. They can invent qualifications and experiences.
