Description

In this lesson, students learn about how to use The Present Perfect Simple to talk about their experiences, ask questions using the present perfect and know the difference between past simple and present perfect. The language is clarified on the board, through audio and free practice speaking.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Students watch a short video about Mary Kate and Ashely Olsen to get interesting in their lives and encourage them to move to the next step through questions and brain storming. The next step is a short reading passage to know more about their lives and how successful they are.

Exposure (5-7 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Set listening Exercise 1. Students listen and underline the correct verb form (present perfect or past simple). Students listen to the audio and the teacher pauses the audio after each point and get feedback from the students and ask them why did they choose this verb form?

Highlighting (5-6 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

1- How is the present perfect formed? Elicit the answer from students. Write the form on the board and ask students to discuss if this correct or not. 2- Ask students to find the regular and irregular verbs in the text and let them discuss and get feedback. 3- When to use the present perfect? read the alternatives and let the students discuss which alternative is correct. 4-The pronunciation of "have" in the strong, weak and contracted form. Ask them to drill.

Clarification (2-4 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Clarify the meaning of the present perfect and when to use it. Clarify the form of present perfect. And forms of "have". Clarify the pronunciation of "have" in the weak, strong, and contracted form.

Controlled Practice (4-5 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Students look at four pictures of famous people. Teacher asks them questions about these people. Students write the names in the spaces. Then put the verb in the correct form. Let students check their answers from the model answer.

Semi-Controlled Practice (6-7 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Students listen to five everyday conversations and match to the descriptions. Then students check in pairs and then feedback from the audio. Students complete the gaps with present perfect of the verbs in the box; explain that the sentences come from the five dialogues they have just heard. Students check in pairs then get feedback from the audio.

Free Practice (3-4 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Ask students to share experiences about places they have visited before or a trip or work or whatever. Using the present perfect form. such as; the example they have got in the hand out(task 3).
