Description

In this lesson, students will learn how to use the collocations and to be familiar with the most words in the box through guiding discovery based on telling a story about Sarah's life events .The lesson starts with describing pictures of life events and eliciting what they represent.This is followed by giving Ss the original story with part of the collocation missing.They will learn some collocations and how to pronounce them After that, Ss discuss different possibilities of the order in which the life events usually happen.Finally, there is some controlled practice.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice lexical items about collocations in the context of life events.

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a discussion in the context of life events.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in To set the lesson context, generate interest and activate schema (3-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Introduce topic;look at the pictures and eliciting what they represent.Discussing the life events in the pictures.

Exposure (7-9 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Give Ss hangouts withe some collocations.Listen to a story about Sara's life events while they are listening they put a line under the collocations the hear.clarify any difficult lexis.Give students the original story with part of the collocation missing .work in pairs or groups and discuss.T. monitors and assists when necessary.

Highlighting To provide clarification of the vocabulary (8-10 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

T checks the meaning using ICCQs. Drill chorally and individually.Mark stress on the board.Give them handouts and asking them to put life events in the correct categories.Work in pairs.Monitor and assist when necessary.Checking answers with the whole class.

Speaking To provide fluency speaking in a discussion about the order in which these life events usually happen and what they have / haven't done. (5-6 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Put Ss into pairs.Ask students to discuss the two questions T monitors keeping a low profile whole class discussion.

Controlled Practice (2-3 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice
