Description

In this lesson, Ss will practise listening & speaking. Ss will also learn how to greet each other..At the beginnig of the lesson, seven social encounters what are given in the book will be read and chosen two or three of them by ss. Then Ss will roleplay a short conversations according to what they chose. Ss will guess the places by looknig at those four photos, Ss will listen to four audioscripts then match the photos and audioscripts. Ss will learn some common social expressions what are used in daily life. At the end of the lesson (speaking part) We will repeat the warm up activity by using new expressions what we learnt in this lesson.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To practise listenning for gist
  • To introduce and practise functional languge related to social language

Procedure

Lead-in (1-2 minutes) • To introduce myself (T) and explain the aim of this subject.

T will introduce herself and tell SS " In this lesson we are going to prcatice how we will communicate with people in the daily life"

Intro to the topic (1-2 minutes) • To elicit from students where they might have social encounters

T will tell SS the possible contexts in the dailylife. ( at the work, on the street, in the bank, at the hospital, in the library, at a party, at the bus stop, at the airport etc.)

Warm up (5-7 minutes) • to read seven items about seven different encounters and roleplay about two or three of them.

SS will read seven items related to a social encounter and choose one of them. Ss will role play about the subject what they chose. Exp1. A- Hello, My name is xxxxxxxx.. It is my first time to join this meeting. B. Wellcome to our meeting. Exp 2 A- It is getting late. B- what time is it? A- It is ten o'clock. I have an important meeting in the early morning tomorrow . B- Ok then. See you again.Thanks alot for your invitation. A- No problem. See you . Bye. B- Bye T will not over-correct during speaking activity.

Pre-task to listenning (3-5 minutes) • too guess the places what Ss see in the photos

SS will look at the photos and will guess the places what SS see in those photos. SS will tell their openions about photos.

Listenning for gist (3-5 minutes) • To improve listenning skil

SS will listen to four audioscripts. SS will match these four audioscripts and four pictures what they saw in the photos . If Ss need to listen to audioscripts, T will play them again.

Language focus (8-10 minutes) • To learn some common social expressions

ss will read the questions and choose the incorrect answer. T will provide a bunch of phrases Exp. Hello, Excuse me , See you, See you again, Bye, Good bye, Excuse me etc. T will distribute HO and ask SS to categorize the phrases according to starting a conversation/ending a conversation/getting someone's attention .

Speaking (13-15 minutes) • To improve speaking skill

We will repeat the warm up activity by using new expressions what ss learnt in this lesson. but we will not use those seven encounters. We will use these situations. 1- A is at the train station and want to buy ticket to London. B is ticket seller. 2- A and B are friends. They have not seen each other for long time. 3- A is at the work. B called A and asked A's manager. 4-.A and B are at the airport. A is going to fly to Paris.
