Description

In this lesson, students learn on the function of asking for things through Guided Discovery based on a listening text about buying something from the supermarket. Finally, there is some controlled practice through gap-fill and free practice via a final role-play speaking activity.

Procedure

Setting a context of being polite and being rude (4-5 minutes) • to help students to brainstorm that there are ways of speaking which you can use politely

I will ask 2 students before class starts. 1 will be acting as a "rude" man. The other will be acting as a "polite" man. I'll check if they know of the lexis "rude" and "polite". Students will look at 2 different groups of pictures. 1. a gentleman and a lady 2. a rude man and a rude woman Students will talk about in pairs, in English What kind of ways there are, how different in speaking? Listening for gist_"Where are they?" (6-7 minutes) • To practice listening for gist of the text on asking for things with "would like" & some, any

Listening for specific information (3-4 minutes) • To highlight the target language so that learners are focussed on it
