To provide practice of functional language used for making suggestions in the context of holidays
Procedure (37-45 minutes)
T will start a dialogue with another teacher about his plan to go on a holiday to Egypt. The teachers will look at a map of Egypt and start making suggestions for places to go to, how to get there, where to stay, and what to do there.The TL will be included in the dialogue.
T chests HO2, part A , and asks ss to complete the holiday phrases using a verb form the list. SS check in pairs, then check the answer key down the HO. FB: SS
1. T divides the class into three groups. T shows HO3 on the PPT and ask ss to have a look at the highlighted sentences and fill the form on the left. T gives a copy of HO3 for each students to do the task individually. SS will then check in their groups. T shows the answers on the WB and asks some CCQs to check the understanding of meaning. FB: SS,Answer key. 2. T models and drills the TL.
1. T shows the map of Turkey (HO4) on the WB and tells the ss that, in pairs, they are going to plan for a holiday in one of the cities in Turkey. They must use the functional language when planning for their holidays and remember to use "going to". T shows ss HO2,part B, and asks ss in pairs to plan for their holidays by answering the questions.Ss are given an example to help them model their plan. T gives ss fake money as a budget for their holiday and they have to plan according to the money they have. T allows 7-8 min for this activity. T monitors for DEC. 2. T tells ss that they are going to tell their plans to the others and listen to the other ss's plans. They can then change their partner and go with one with a plan they like.T asks one from each pairs to stand in a circle back to back. T then asks the other ss to stand facing those in the circle, T makes sure that the old partners don't work with each other. Ss start asking ss in front of them about their plans. As soon as the teacher claps (in 1 min time) the outer circle moves one step clockwise. T allows 10 min for this activity. T monitors for DEC. FB: SS
1. T Asks those who changed their partners to sit next to the new partners. They will then explain why they chose to go with the new partners. 2. T Writes errors from the monitoring stage on the WB eliciting correction from the ss. FB: SS, T
