Description

In this lesson, the SS learn talking about their friends' typical lives. The lesson starts with a quick discussion about their own life, they will continue by some listening to other people talking about their friends' personal lives. finally they will practice the TL, which is talking about each other's life.

Main Aims

  • To provide detailed listening practice using a text about where she works in the context of personal life
  • To provide gist and specific information listening practice using a text about "Where does she work" in the context of Personal life

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide product writing practice of a answering to questions in the context of your friend's life
  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of your friend's personal and typical life

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

- T faces the class and asks: Do you study or work? Where do you study or work? Where do you live? - Let the SS do the most talking

Pre-Reading/Listening (5-8 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

- T shows the picture of the listening on the board and asks: Where are they? What are they doing? What are they talking about? - Praise all the answers - If they can't answer ask more simple questions: Are they at home or a park? Are they dancing or talking? * if the SS look confused and not willing to cooperate, let them do it in pairs

While-Reading/Listening #1 (5-7 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

- keep the picture on the board so that the SS can see the characters and don't get confused - Explain that they have to say if Nadine and Carol are friends, sisters or co-workers - SS listen once and guess the answer - SS discuss their answers with their partners - Ask one of the SS what the answer is and why he/she thinks so

While-Reading/Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

- T explains that they will listen once and underline the correct words alone ICQs? Do you work alone or in groups? Do you answer or underline? - T gives the SS the HO of the second part of the questions - T asks the SS to fold their papers - T plays the first part. SS answer alone. (5.6) - T puts the SS in groups of 3 - SS check their answers in their groups - T puts the answer key on the walls, SS check their answers - T asks to unfold the paper and face the second part of the listening - T explains that the SS answer the questions alone ICQs: Do you work alone or in groups? Do you work on part a or b? - T plays the track (5.6) - SS answer individually - Change the members of the groups - SS check their answers with their friends - T nominates the SS to answer the questions * Don't forget to ask for deeper feedback ( why is it so?)

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

- SS work alone - T shows the Wh questions on the board and tell the SS that they will answer to the questions about their friends - SS stand up and explain about their friends lives to their classmates - T monitors the SS to extract the errors and write them on the board so that later she can elicit the correct forms from the SS ICQs: will you write or speak? Write Will you write about your life or your friend's? friend's
