Main Aims

  • To provide specific information listening practice using a text about national food

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a control, question and respond in the context of food

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I introduce 6 pictures national dishes Bruschetta, Bife de chorizo, full English breakfast, salad mechoia, brik, sachertorte I would ask them if they know which country they came from? I would start with the first picture, I would ask to identify one of the vocabulary words for example tomatoes and toast and continue eliciting vocabulary through the picture and asking them where do they think the dish originated from. I would keep count on the board of the countries

Pre/Listening (9-10 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

The first listening is to help the student associate the people with the food we discussed in the lead in. They will write the name of the food onto a handout. After, they'll compare with their peers.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

I would give them a handout, I'll ask them if they have any questions before putting on the listening task again. Check the answer with their peer.

Practice control speaking (8-9 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

What do you think? What are your favorite national foods? When and where do we eat them?
