By the end of this lesson SS will have practised countable and uncountable phrases using some and any in the context of shopping for food.

Main Aims

  • To provide review and practice of countable and uncountable phrases using some and any in the context of shopping for food.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide specific information listening practice using a text about shopping at the market in the context of food

Procedure

Lead-in (5-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Display pictures of market and elicit from ss: What they see Play audio (noise from the market) Elicit from ss what expressions they might hear at the market when shopping Write ss expressions on the W/B.

Speaking practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide Ss with an opportunity to use TL in dialogues

Demo activity: Ss sit back to back and ask their partners about the items they have in their shopping list so as to have completed ones. Is there any/Are there any/ How much/ How many

Listening for specific information (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language and get vocabulary for the freer practice

Ss listen and tick items in a list. Check in pairs.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • Practise speaking in the context of shopping for food at the market.

Ss take it in turns to be the shopper and then the seller. They practise using count and uncount phrases.

Round-up and feedback • Deal with SS language

Highlight SS' good language used during the speaking and deal with any difficulties.
