Description

In this lesson the students will be exposed to quantifiers in the context of making preparations for travel. They will also listen to various recordings in which the TL is also reviewed. Finally the will free practice about a trip that they have made / or will make.

Materials

Abc pgs 54-55, 132-133

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification, review and practice of of quantifiers, some, much, many etc. in the context of in the context of travel preparation.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide detailed listening practice using a text about examples of the TL quantifiers and pronunciation examples in the context of within the context of travel preparations

Procedure

Lead-in (5-7 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students with a situational presentation or personal anecdote using TL of both packing and quantifiers.

Greet students Tell them how busy I have been. Launch into story. Concept check a long the way for words like diapers and for the quantifiers more importantly, using questions like "How many ____ will we bring? Will we bring any ________? Afterword elicit and write a few examples on the board.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide further exposure for the target language through a listening where two people are packing their bags for a trip.

Instruct S that they will listen to a couple preparing for a trip. They first get a handout with a picture and in groups make sure that they can identify the items in it. Hand out CCQs are there any? Is there any? Do they have a lot of __________ ? SS can ask and answer each other for 2 mins regarding various other items. Ints: You will now listen to the couple, pay attention to the details. There will be new objects so pay close attention to How many of each objects? Students listen to the track

Highlighting and clarification (8-10 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language of some/any/lots of etc.

After first listening students work alone on ex.4. ICQ Working alone or in pairs? Hand out page 55. Students do and finish exercise and then compare answers. Elicit which mean large quantity and which mean small quantity. Now the do exercise 5 together and the WGFB on the board.

Controlled to Semi controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice by listening to the sentences in ex4.

Ins: Now we are going to listen to some sentences from before. This time I want you listen for pronunciation. Listen elicit Did you notice anything about 1,4,5. Play number 1 again if needed Write on board a couple of examples with "a lot of". Join with arrow and drill students. Get them to write some questions using a lot of and ask/answer.

Free Practice (4-6 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language in the context of what the usually take on vacation.

Have students write two real sentences and two false sentences using the quantifiers from the lesson. Afterward have the pairs try to guess which are true and which are false. Afterward exchange papers and have one or two of them read aloud to the group from them see if the WG and understand if they are lies or truth and who originally wrote them.

Wrap up • Further oral practice of TL
