Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a discussion in the context of fact or ficition

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The lesson will start by playing song " we will rock you" Queen band which is the topic the SS will engage with in the following tasks. Following that the T will show a picture of the band and use CQs to let SS predict the answers. (who is this? do you think he is the guitarist or drummer?) this also will include clarification for the unfamiliar words the students will find in the per-listening task. (e.g lead, band)

Pre-Reading/Listening (5-7 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

In hand outs, SS will read text related to band Queen. I will give the students text sheets to read about the band followed with 4 questions at the bottom. SS will fold the paper to read the text first only, then will unfold again to check the questions and answer them. SS will read the text individually then in PW students will check their answers. FB with T will be as WC

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist listening tasks

SS will have HO that has topics "a-h", first they read the topics to be familiar with the next tasks where they listen to audio programme in the context of the band Queen. following that in PW, SS number the topics (1-8). T models first number to let SS engage easier with the task. the teacher gives FB as WC for concept check.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (8-12 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed listening tasks

T gives some HOs that have True- false task.T asks them to read the sentences first for 2 minutes, then students listen for specific information from the audio again to provide their answers. T plays the audio again and in PW, SS check their answer more carefully. FB with the teacher as WC.

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to expand the student's knowladge beyoned the topic through discussion.

In pair work, SS will discuss some question depending on their own information which will help them to practice some of the recent learned information. students will ask and answer each other: What kind of music do you like? what is your favorite band? Do you know any other Queen songs? while ss are engaging in discussion, T monitors and writes down some wrong sentences the students say. in delayed error correction the T writes them on board and use CQs to let the students discover the mistakes.
