Description

In this lesson students will learn grammar on using of present continuous tense for future arrangements in the context of "You need a holiday!". Lesson will have three stages: presentation, practice and production. `-In presentation Ss will be introduced with the target language through a listening text. T will provide MFPA of the TL to Ss. -In practice stage Ss will do controlled and semi-controlled practice of TL. -In production stage Ss will speak by using TL freerly.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification, review and practice of the present continuous tense for future arrangements in the context of "50 places to go"

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide gist and specific information listening practice using a text about cycling tour arrangement in the context of 50 places to go

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-T asks: Do you like holidays? Possible answer: yes -Do you have plan for this summer? Possible answer: yes/no/may be -Did you arranged/book the place where to spend your holiday? (preparing Ss for TL for future arrangements)

Exposure (5-1 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

-T tells Ss: You are going to listen to two neighbors , Ketith and Sophie. They are talking about holidays. T tels: I want you to find (projected on the WB): 1. Where is Sophie going on holiday the summer? and, 2. Who is she going with? -T elicit the answer from WC

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

-T gives HO-1 and asks Ss to read the questions -T asks Ss to listen the same record again and answer the given questions -T asks Ss to check their answers with partners -T check answers with the class

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

-T check Ss remember"book a holiday/flight -T asks Ss working pairs and discuss about the questions --T draws a time line on WB -T elicit the answers from WC meanwhile showing the timing of the tasks on the timeline -- -T projects two sentences on WB 1. We are leaving on Saturday 2 We are leaving. -T asks: what is the difference in these two sentence? -T elicit the answers and encourage Ss to focus on the future time phrase (on Saturday) -T focus Ss to the "certainty of the arrangements" by asking 1. Is Sophie sure that she will go for a holiday and why? 2.Did they buy ticket? (yes) -T asks: how we form the negative of this sentence (We are leaving on Saturday ) -T elicit until the right answer comes and write it under the projected sentences and underlines the form: subject+'m not/aren't/isn't+verb+ing -T asks: How do we form a question for this sentences? (We are leaving on Saturday ) -T elicit until the right answer comes and write it under the projected sentences and underlines the form: subject+am/is/are+verb+ing -T put the stresses for pronunciation

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

-T gives HO-2 and tells: This is the script of the record that you are going to listen now. You have to read the script during the listening and repeat. Also pay attention to the stresses. -ICQ: will you read the script while listening?/Yes -Will you just listen Orr..?/ Also repeat -T tells: Now I want you to listen and repeat together. -T focus Ss to the map and itinerary for Sophie and Rob's cycling tour -T focus Ss on to example sentence ( on Monday they're traveling from Christchurch to Hanmer Springs) and highlights the verb form -CCQ: Are they traveling now? /No When are they traveling?/Monday -T asks Ss to write sentences about the rest of the day, using information in the itinerary. -Peer-checking -Fb with WC

Semi-Controlled Practice (1-5 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

-T puts Ss into two groups: A and B (if there is not enough Ss set as individual work) -T gives HO-4 to A and HO-5 to B -T tells Ss that they are going to find out about the other two days of the tour by asking questions (eg. What are they going to do on morning?) -T asks: Now for missing part write the possible questions. -ICQ: Will you write questions or negative sentences?/questions Will you work in group or alone?/group

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

-T asks Ss to find someone who is not in his/her group to find answer for the written questions. -ICQ: will you ask question to your group?/No -T gives 5 minutes for the task -T asks Ss to decide which day is the most interesting day that Sophipe and Rob had on their tour.
