Description

In this lesson students are exposed with "have to" structure through reading a text about housecleaning. Some verbs that should be followed by a gerund are presented as well.

Materials

Abc Got it!, leve; 2
Abc pictures of bedrooms

Main Aims

  • 2- To find more challenging details in the text
  • 1-To comprehend the general idea of the text.

Subsidiary Aims

  • 1- To expose the students with "have to" for teaching the grammar part in the following pages.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The teacher shows the students some pictures of clean and messy rooms. Then the teacher ask questions about the students' bedrooms.

Pre-Reading/Listening (2-4 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Teacher asks students to look at page 18 and guess what the text is about.

While-Reading (Gist) (7-10 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist

Teacher ask students to match the headings and paragraphs in exercise 1.

While-Reading (Scan) (5-8 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Teacher asks the students to answer the questions in exercise 2.

Clarification (3-5 minutes) • Clarifying about the verbs which are followed by a gerund

Teacher explains about hate and like. Teacher asks the students to do exercise 4.

Post-Reading/Listening (10-15 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Teacher ask students to write sentences about the chores they like doing, and chores they hate doing. Then they decide how to divide chores if they want to live in a house together.
