To provide gist listening practice using a text about months, days and holidays within the year in the context of Special days and holidays and the formation of dates
Procedure (32-50 minutes)
- Introduce myself : Put my name on the board and tell them my birthday. write it on the board as well: I was born on November 5th, 1987 - Tell them that there are more so-called "special days" in our lives, then put 5 different cards on the board that will have to be matched to strips I will pass out to them. The strips will show words such as "Anniversary" or "Birthday". - Students will listen to 3C- R 3.7 and match their strips in the order they heard the events. - They will then come up to t he WB and put them in order along with the correct picture.
- Have students listen to R. 8 , model again and drill. - Write the sentences on the board showing stress - Have them match the phrases to the cards on the board
Introduce vocabulary matching the events: - Elicit "present" or "gift" with a picture - Teach to "give a gift" and "to get a gift" and to "celebrate" and put it on the board.
-Give handout with a matching activity related to months, have them put months in order with their partner - Put solutions on walls, have them check themselves. - Whole class feedback : say months out loud, drill.
- Hand students activity 5, have them match words to numbers. - Have them turn it over as solutions will be on the back - Have them check with their partner
- Give handout with questions. - Have them form sentences from the words - Divide them in A and B , have them switch - Whole class f/b if time, if not just monitor.
