Main Aims

  • To provide specific information and detailed listening practice using a text about freely floating exchange rates in the context of foreign exchange.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification and review of terms and phrases used in the context of foreign exchange.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (10 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Unit 13, Pg 63 Lead in - How many different currencies can you name - in pairs History of Sudanese currency

Pre-Listening (15 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Explain briefly history of exchange rates. Pairwork to complete Reading 1 exercise on Pg 63 with whole class to confirm

Listening #1 (15 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

Listen several times to Track 13 for Listening Pg 64 asking students after each play on what they understand. After listening to the track twice, introduce Unit 13, Pg 64 Q2, where they have to complete the gaps. Play a third & fourth time to complete.

Post-Listening (15 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

On WB, write down each answer and discuss term and phrase in relation to text.

Group Discussion (15 minutes) • Further increase understanding of subject by identifying additional phrases used.
