Description

In this lesson, students are going to read a text called " highlights of the year" which is about the memorable memories of a school band from traveling to LA and performing there. They are going to see the usage of the grammar that they have learned before in this reading too.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide gist, scan, detailed, deduction and inference reading practice using a text about Highlights of the year in the context of Travel

  • To create a learner-based class

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (4-6 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I'm going to tell them a story about the highlights of my last year when I went on a vacation to another country. I'm going to use new words that they have learned in previous lessons and I'm gonna show some videos related to the story for better engagement and understanding.

Pre-Reading (6-7 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

I have written some discussion questions about traveling, vacation and the best or the most important events of their last year. students are going to discuss these questions in pair and group and I'm going to monitor them.

Pre teach vocabulary (4-6 minutes) • To pre-teach/unblock key vocab needed to help students complete the tasks.

I'm going to teach the new words in the text by using pictures , creating situations and giving definitions.

While-Reading 1 (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

Students are going to read the text silently. Then in pair , they are going to discuss some skimming questions which I am going to give them,

While-Reading 2 (15-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Students read the text loudly for each other in pair and group. When one of them has a problem in pronunciation, his partners must correct him. I will monitor them too. Then they discuss some scanning questions in their book by speaking. At last we are going to check the answers.

Post-Reading (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Student go to the next page and discuss speaking questions in the book. I will monitor them.
