Main Aims

  • To provide an activity to improve the students vocabulary by matching words to make the correct order.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide an opportunity for the students to reflect back on what they have learnt to improve their writing skills.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

show the students pictures of the food your going to present. Ask them to tell you what each object is, and how you would put it into a sentence. (A bar of chocolate, A bunch of bananas)

Controlled practice (10-15 minutes) • To concept check and practise the target language

Students do exercise 1 on page 41 The students read the question. I then point out to them that they will have to match the words together to make the correct order of words. The students work in groups to check each others answers.

Contolled practice 2 (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and practice the target language

Give handouts to the students of pictures and words, where they will have to match the words with the correct pictures with their group. Split the class into four groups and do this activity.

Language analysis (10-15 minutes) • To highlight useful language for common collocations

Show the students again what a bar, bowl, box, bunch, jar and packet are from column A by showing them pictures. Once their sure of what these objects are, let them do question 2 on page 41 together. They will have to write the correct order of words by adding the words I gave them from column B.

Free practice and error correction (10-15 minutes) • To provide feedback on students production and use of language.

Tell the students to write a short story. They tell someone to go and do shopping for them and told that person to buy them their food. `What did you tell him/her to buy you. what was most expensive and what was the cheapest, where did you go and buy your food, how much money did you spend. Write ten stuff you bought please. To start off they write `This is my shopping list and I would like you to buy me: 1. A bunch of Grapes, 2. A packet of Biscuits, Etc... Go around monitoring the class for any errors they make and correct their mistakes.
