Description

In this lesson, students discuss some tips for learning a foreign language. It starts with a video about tips for losing weight. Then, students will be asked to give a name to the video. Once, they say the word "tips"', I will tell them that our lesson is not about cooking tips; it is about tips for learning English. This is my lead-in. After that, They will be asked about some vocabulary which they will meet at the second task. The second task will be a worksheet about tips for learning English. They will be asked to tick or cross some sentences. Then, they will ask and answer questions about them in pairs. The next task is learning the blocker words before they listen. Then, they will read some sentences and try to complete them. They will listen and check their answers. Finally, they will interview each other about the best tips to learn English.

Procedure

lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To generate interest in a topic of tips

Students will watch a video about tips for losing weight. Then, I will tell them that our lesson is about tips for learning English.

Preparing to speak (3-5 minutes) • To pre-teach some vocabulary needed to help students understand the text

students will be asked about the meaning, the form and the pronunciation of some words which I expect that may not know.

speaking task (8-10 minutes) • To practice an oral fluency about tips for learning English.

Students will be given a worksheet. They will be asked to read some statements and to tick or cross them. Then, they will be asked to get in pairs and to change the statements into questions. Then, they will ask and answer questions about the statements.

Preparing to listen (3-5 minutes) • To pre-teach some vocabulary needed to help students understand the listening text

I will ask students about some lexis which they need to understand the listening text. Students will learn the meaning, the form and the pronunciation of the new words.

Listening for specific information (5-10 minutes) • To encourage students to listen for specific information

students will be asked to read some sentences about people giving tips for learning English. Then, I will ask them to guess the answers. After that, they will listen and check their answers with their partners. Finally, I will the key answers on the whiteboard.
