In this lesson, the students will practice listening. They will listen to a recording about Mars.The lesson will start with teacher tellıng a story about hıs chıldhood and teacher wıll also add some vocabulary in the story that will come later on ın the lesson. Students will then have a speaking task about the palents they know teacher will try to elicit the palnets from the students.students will have one controlled task then a semi contorlled task for lıstenıng.

Main Aims

  • To provide gist and detailed listening practice using a text about Mars

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of planets and space


Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-Greet SS and ask how they are -Tell SS that you willl tell you a short story about your childhood - The story will start by having a curiosıty about rocketships and how Ive always want to go to the Moon then the story will move to how That curiosity was also for Mars - In the story ı will elicit what they call people the study moon (what is the Moon and Mars?) and space (what do they call peole that study the moon and space? scientist) - I wıll also meantion that there is another word for NASA ( space agencey) - I wıll also mention that there ıs small life (there is a word for small life Organizim)

Exposure (3-5 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

- ı wıll wrıte the words on the bored. planet scientist space agency organizims - I will drill these words.

Highlighting (5-10 minutes) • this task will encorage students to talk and it will be a good way to elicit which planets they know

- I wıll insturct SS that we will try to place the planets of the sloar system in order. - They will also be insturcted to name them aswell. - They will be working in gorups (ICQ) - This activity will be fun and might get the speaking. - ı will try to encorage them as much as I can. - while students are speacking i will make sure that I have a pen and paper ın my hand to hear any mistakes a S might make. - Corretion will be done at the end of the class.

While Listening - For Gist (5-10 minutes) • To provide students a quick listening for gist.

- SS will be instructed that they will listen to a recording and answer quetions on the sheet. - SS will be also be instructed to work as inidivduals (ICQ) - Once SS have listen and answered the questıons as ındıvıduals SS will be asked to PW to compare answers. - I will then ask SS for answers - if students dont have the right answers I will prvide it.

Listening for Detail (5-10 minutes) • To provide students to scan for detail

-T will instruct SS the sheet they will be getting is a True and False question sheet. -SS will listen to the recording again and answer the questions. -Frist students will be instructed to work as individuals ICQ -SS will then do PW to compare answer. -T will ask for answers and provide the answers if needed.

Post-listening (5-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

-T will first give a work sheet an instruct studebts that they will have to answer the questıon. -T will also need to tell ss that they are working as individuals ICQ -T will also give a time limit of 5mins - once SS have finished T will ask them to compare answers. -This activity will encorage Ss to talk and T taecher can again hear for any mşstakes that SS make.
