Main Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a conversation, discussion in the context of future.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide gist, specific information and detailed listening practice using a text about life in the year 2020.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Ask SS what did they learn about robots in the previous lesson? Then write robot on the board. Elicit from students things they learnt about robot. Ask SS what can robots do? Can robots fly? SS will probably say no. Write on board Robots can't fly. Ask SS is it present or future? Ask SS will robots be able to fly in 2050? Write Robots will be able to fly in 2050. Ask SS is it present or future. Clarify ability.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

Focus students attention to the board ask them to read the example. Ask students if the example sentence is positive or negative. Ask SS their opinion for the example. Ask SS to work on their own write sentence that they think is true. ICQs -Are you going to work alone? -Do you have 5 minutes? Get SS to discuss their answers with pairs. Conduct feedback and ask SS to come to the board and write answers.

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

Tell SS ; to listen four people talking about life in 2020. Ask SS to match the conversations 1-4 to the things a - d. Ask SS to check answers in pairs. Write answers on the board for SS. H/O teacher made a worksheet. Ask SS to write a couple of notes about their life in 2020. You have 2 minutes. Ask SS to discuss with each other.

Productive Task(s) (18-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Ask SS to write questions with "Do you think and will". Then make two more questions on their own. Tell them they have 10 minutes. ICQ: Do you have 5 minutes?No Are you going to write with your partner? No Tell SS to work with your partner. Take a turn to ask and answer your questions.

Feedback and Error Correction (8-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

Do some delayed error correction if necessary.
