Main Aims

  • To introduce and give practise in using present continuous

  • To practice speaking about wedding

Procedure

lead-in (3-6 minutes) • To get students interest about the tense

T reminds Ss about simple present first. then Ss are shown a picture and asked "what are they doing now?" then T draws timeline on whiteboard and points to the present continuous that it is happening right now. T writes the form of present continuous on the whiteboard with some examples.

Activity 1 (4-5 minutes)

T shows a picture of people who are doing many activities and asks students to work in pairs and write down at least three or four activities. T asks Ss to mention some of these activities out load.

Activity 2 (3-4 minutes)

T provides Ss with handouts from student's book and asks them to do ex1 individually. After that T asks Ss to check their answers in pairs.

Negative and interrogative (3-6 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging tasks about present continuous

T explains the negative form of present continuous by showing them a picture of people who are doing different activities and asking them some questions about the picture. T asks Ss to do ex2 from workbook individually then they check their answers in pairs.

miming game (3-5 minutes) • To encourage speaking and understanding of students by miming

T asks one student to come out then T gives him small piece of paper contains an action. S has to mime it without saying any word. This way helps Ss to practice and say the sentence easily in a fun way. T repeats it with many different students.

Activity 3 (3-4 minutes)

T asks Ss to do ex2 in student's book by reminding them the difference between simple present and present continuous. Ss do the exercise individually then they check their answers in pairs.

controlled activity (3-5 minutes) • To help students talk about wedding

Ss are divided into three or four groups and shown a picture of wedding party. Ss have to say five positive sentences and five negative ones.

Activity 4 (3-5 minutes)

T asks Ss to do ex3 and ex4 from workbook individually. After that T asks Ss to check their answers in pairs.

Speaking practice (3-5 minutes) • To help students talk about about wedding

Ss have to skim the wedding traditions in UK or US then they are divided into two or three groups and given handouts contain some questions about the difference between American wedding and Turkish one.
