Description

In this lesson students will be engaged in exercises which activate their knowledge of the TL and have them practice it by speaking with one another.

Abc SpeakOut students book

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification, review and practice of of the TL which is past and mixed conditionals in the context of in the context of the text book readings, regrets and acceptance.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation and some pronunciation drilling of contractions in the context of in the context of being on a desert island offering some advice.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Reflect back to previous lesson with Camila and the short stories. Write the titles if necessary and predict through elicitation the conditionals. Elicit contexts and grammar if possible. CCQs What happened?What did he do? What was the result? Could the result have been different?

Exposure to the TL (15-20 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text and in speaking practice

4a from text book. WG : Elicit short story review for plot under headings written on board. Do first WG. Elicit which story each of the sentences comes from? Work SOLO and find the others. Compare with partners. Move into Desert Island Groups A and B A: You are thinking about this but you are already back at home, comfortable and secure B: You are sitting on the island dreaming of having these products but you don't You have 3mins to chose 5 of them Ask groups to check to see if others have chosen the same things. Elicit why group A has chosen the item, then group B what is the difference ELICIT struture, write on board chart Conditional / structure / use / Now, I want Group A to say one choice and why they chose it then I want group B to say "But did you consider?" "If you'd had that you could (have) eat that, Then it is the other groups turn, For WG Write up the long form sentence from one of the groups last choices. Next elicit how it would be reduced to a short for We would to We'd some drilling I'd choose that He'd choose that WGFB Handout ex.6 ask students to do exercise together and then read the results, one each

Speaking output less controlled (10-15 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

ex. 7A book Elicit the word regrets (maybe my way by sinatra in the background) Then develop a question model for first one. Now ask students to ask and answer the following. Making a quick note of each persons response. When finished go and ask a new person, Monitor for common errors and write them on the board for WGFB.

Wrap up (1-10 minutes) • To clarify main grammar objective

Hand out pg ex143 Have students do in pairs and then do WGFB and error correction
