Description

In this lesson ss will learn conjunctions with future tense. They will learn meaning and form of the usage and at the end of lesson they are expected to use one of these future clauses while speaking.

Main Aims

  • Ss are expected to differentiate the meaning, comprehend the structure of future clauses such as "if, unless, when, etc." use one of these while talking about possibilities at the end of lesson.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification give them short paragraph for making suggestion with possible options.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Ask ss "What will you do next summer/weekend? Get them to write 3 things they will do in 5 years time.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Give a short paragraph. Get them to write 2 advices with should/shouldn't to elicit the idea of possibility by using suggestions. Give some sentences about the text including future phrases such as "if, when, unless, before, until, as soon as" and get them to match the meaning with the action in the picture given by.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Show them sentences including future clauses. Elicit the word 'conjunction' as 'linking word'. Get them to find linking word in these sentences.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Elicit the tenses (form) used in and ask "Which tense do we use after/before Future clauses. Drill out the sentences in order to check pronunciation and break down sentence. "As soon as I decide, I'll share it with you."

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Give them sentences including future clauses and meanings of them. Ask ss "check the meaning of the linking word by matching" Check the meanings of 'if, unless, when' by asking "which one is possibility/certainty?" or "Can we use not after 'if/unless'?" Check the form and meaning at the same time by giving exercise, in which it is needed to choose meaningful future clause and complete the correct form of tenses.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Give them some sentences to make them true for themselves. Ask them to choose 2 of them at least and write them according to themselves.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Put them in pairs and ask the ones to give a situation who will talk about future plans and ask the ones to give possible answer who will listen.
