Description

In this lesson, Ss will listen to someone recommending a place to visit (Australia) and will practise speaking to recommend a place they have already visited or would like to visit.

Main Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of Travel.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice of language used for recommending things to do/ not to do, describing places and responding in the context of Travel.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Talk about holidaying as it is summer. What would your destination be? What is my destination? Show pictures from Australia. What do you know about Australia?

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through listening

SS listen to Elain recommending places in Autralia along with interesting things. SS match characteristics to regions by adding numbers to the map of Australia.

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • practise recommending, describing and responding

SS categorise expressions according to function by putting slips (expressions) under the right headings (functions).

Productive Task(s) (18-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice recommending a place to visit

SS choose a destination. They prepare what they have to say about it. They design a tour and tell their classmates about it

Feedback and Error Correction (8-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language
