TP4
Elementary - A2 level

Description

In this lesson students will learn about the use of present simple negative in sentences and learn how to convert them in questions. Students will be engaged in several activities which will try to make clear in practice the use of the present simple negative. First, MFP will be elicited from the students and then an exercise where students talk about themselves in positive or negative statements will begin. Students will share this info in pairs and ask their partner questions. An information gap exercise will give students the opportunity to reinforce the lesson.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification, review and practice of present simple negative sentences and the question form of the TL.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy of simple present negative sentences in contracted form "don't", as well as question forms and answers when two individuals get to do or not do the same activity "Me too." or "Me neither."

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-8 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Students will listen to a conversation between co-workers to focus them on the previous lesson. Two dialogue question/answers will be written on the board for the students to see and then the present simple negative form will be drawn in an ordered table. Students will be given a HO and position the words in the sentences in the order showed on the w/b

Exposure (5-8 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Students will receive a HO with statements for which they need to declare if they're true of not in relation to their life. If not true then they'll need to write the negative statement.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Students will be put in pairs and state to their partner what they don't do.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Teacher will explain on the w/b the question form and the position of the words in it. A HO will be given where students need to find the right position of the word order for questions.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

In pairs students will create questions related to the previous task and ask their partner, eliciting answers such as 'Me too." or "Me neither"

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Students will receive a HO with an information gap exercise, divided into Q & A and work in pairs. They'll work together in filling the gaps and then will practice with each other the Q & A.

Free Practice (5-8 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Using the Q & A given as the last exercise, students will go around the room and find at least 2 people for the first 2 questions who like or do the same thing. Then they'll randomly be asked to report their findings
